Seismic Specifications: Sinclair Knight Merz TegTab Seismic Integrity Investigation

Sinclair Knight Merz was commissioned by Conacc Ltd to investigate the seismic load capacityof the TegTab product. Testing was undertaken at USG's Australasian manufacturing plant in Penrose, Auckland on 06/04/2006. Eighteen direct tensile tests of the TegTab connection were undertaken using USG's on-site tensile test rig. The TegTab system was found to perform adequately for use in perimeter-fixed suspended ceilings as a method for providing seismic restraint, subject to the load capacities and limitations noted on the full test report, with key points summarized in the Sinclair Knight Merz seismic integrity investigation.

A note on seismic requirements: When used with the Armstrong BERC or USG ACM7 clip, the Teg-Tab becomes essentially cosmetic and is not subject to seismic load requirements. Only when used IN PLACE of a seismic clip, requiring rivets, are Teg-Tabs subject to seismic code requirements. In this application, rivet right through the Teg-Tab.
